The Body Shop - 4 Step Smoky Eyes Palette

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

A few weeks ago, I bought this cute smoky eyes set from The Body Shop. The price is £15 but with my £3 joy card from Glamour Magazine, I paid £12!

The packaging is simple and the palette has a compact mirror and includes 2 mini brushes. One is an angled brush and the other is an eyeshadow brush.

These eyeshadow colours are pigmented and stick on with eye primer! I love how pretty these colours are. Very wearable all season round.

It also comes with instructions so you can't really go wrong! I would definitely recommend this palette - would make a great stocking filler/Secret Santa gift.

The Chelsea Day Spa

Sunday, 1 September 2013

After seeing an advert in Glamour magazine for The Chelsea Day Spa located in Sloane Square on King's Road, I decided to ask my friend to join me in trying this spa boutique. The spa is on the edge of the main road - easy to find. You have to go up to the 2nd floor for the reception desk and 3rd floor for treatments.

On our arrival, we were greeted by the receptionists and given consultation forms (we were asked to show up 10 minutes earlier) to fill in. There were quite a lot of questions but it was all relatively simple to fill in.

And of course my friend had to fill in my answer for emotional stress...putting down a 10+ on my behalf!

Our appointments started very punctually, we were taken up to the 3rd floor by the lovely staff member who was very friendly. Whilst they were preparing the rooms (two rooms next to each other), we seated outside in the waiting area.

We both went for the back facials which lasted 45 minutes, it's a deep cleansing treatment for the shoulders and back. During the treatment, relaxing music was played. First, there is a cleanse, followed by exfoliation and a mask with a mini massage and finishing products to end the treatment. The products they use are Darphin which have a pleasant smell.  It was so relaxing and I would definitely visit again.

The price of a back facial is £45 - students receive a 15% discount! They also do early bird offers which is worth having a look at! The Chelsea Day Spa do a variety of treatments, from facials to manicures. The price list is available here.

I have never felt so relaxed and stress free in my life. You must visit this great spa boutique! Thank you so much for taking care of us at The Chelsea Day Spa!

Vichy Normaderm Night Cream Review

Saturday, 31 August 2013

Recently, I bought the Vichy Normaderm night cream from Boots for £12.77. Yes, it is rather expensive for cream but this cream claims to tighten pores and fix irregular skin texture. And who doesn't want flawless skin?

I apply this cream to my T-zone and cheeks before I sleep. It doesn't feel sticky, in fact - it feels like silk and gives a matte texture. Even though it's a night cream, I do sometimes use a bit in the mornings. It smells so much nicer than other creams!

I'm not entirely convinced my pores became smaller but I think it has helped with controlling and preventing the amount of oil on my skin. I guess it has slightly reduced the size of my pores but I wouldn't say the differences are THAT visible.

Overall, I think this is a good night cream but I highly doubt I will repurchase because of the price! It's worth a try if you have £15 to spare.

MUA Brushes Review

Monday, 19 August 2013

These MUA make up brushes are such good quality.
I bought...

The packaging is great and the bristles are so soft.

A close up of the eyeshadow contour brush and the blusher & contouring brush.

My favourite MUA brush is the contour brush. It defines the cheekbones so well and it doesn't shed. Washes and dries nicely. I would recommend. :)

Kate - Kanebo Eyeshadow BR-3 palette

Thursday, 15 August 2013

I received this Kanebo Kate Eyshadow BR-3 palette as a gift from my friend who recently just went to Japan. Thank you so much! I love it. :)

There are 5 colours, the white is a gel like eyeshadow, good for highlighting the inner corners of the eyes, the champagne can be used a highlighter/base, the pink in the bottom right used for lid, the brown for contouring at the side in the creases and the black for eyeliner/bottom.

This is a great palette. I love Kanebo make up. Oriental make up is the best, even the high street standard feels like a high end premium brand.

Zara High Street Shopping Haul

Monday, 12 August 2013

Nothing like going shopping after work. The plan was to go in and buy ONE item, instead...I walked out with two others. This seems to be a growing trend - guilty.

Let's start with the necklace. I'm starting to get into statement necklaces. I'm more of a simple single pendant or charm kind of accessories person but now I'm starting to realise just how fun one necklace can glamourise a simple outfit. This necklace was only £19.99.

As you can see, it's very shiny and glistens in the light...great for the bargain price of £19.99.

Then I chose this Zara knit for the colder autumn and winter months. Also priced at £19.99! There are other colours available but I don't think I own a white knit. Yes, I am well aware this will probably go down in price before I wear it out but never mind. I chose a medium size instead of a small size as I wanted a looser fit. The small seemed too small. I would say the medium size closer resembles a UK8.

I think the silver statement necklace would match with this knit but maybe it would go better with a black knit/jumper to contrast the colour?

Next and last item...the one item I planned to buy after work. A Prada looking but not quite Prada high street version - the Zara mini office city bag for £29.99. Also available in burgundy but I thought the navy would be more versatile and easier to match. The bag has 2 magnetic closures.

Also a detachable shoulder strap.

Inside phone holder and card holders.

Very smooth zip with padded lining in the middle compartment.

Come on - you have to admit I got myself a bargain...£29.99 and it comes with studs at the bottom to keep the bag cleaner.

Yes, the material is 100% polyurethane and the inner lining is 100% polyester but this is the sort of bag (mini size) which is suitable for work and dumping on the floor, without feeling guilty that it is sitting on the floor. Obviously, the quality of a high street bag doesn't compare to a high end premiere designer but you get what you pay for. I'm not willing to carry my expensive bags on the tube during rush hour and have people's bags scrape against my bag.

What I like about this bag is the size and shape. It's smaller than my Longchamp Le Pliage but is shaped like my Prada Saffiano (not to mention much less expensive). Lastly, check out this Zara bag - looks so much like a Prada. Well done, Zara - very good. Feeling rather satisfied for a Monday.

The Body Shop Goodies

Monday, 22 July 2013

My favourite product from The Body Shop has got to be the mango shower gel. This smells amazing - smells so real and it's unlike any other shower gel. If you haven't tried this before, you are missing out and must buy a bottle! One bottle is £4, consider it a little luxury. If you buy 2, it's £6, saving you £2.

I also decided to try the Seaweed Toner so I bought a small bottle of that. I haven't yet finished the other toner from The Body Shop which is the Aloe Calming Toner. I really like the Aloe Calming Toner, it smells pleasant and doesn't dry out the skin. I apply a bit of serum after toner then moisture. That's pretty much my skin routine after washing my face. What's yours?

Botanics Botanics Shine Away Mattifying Cleansing Mousse Review

Thursday, 18 July 2013

Hello! This is a review for Botanics Botanics Shine Away Mattifying Cleansing Mousse from Boots. I bought this with a Boots coupon which gave 20% off any Botanics products. As I have used the clay mask from the Botanics line before, I decided to try something new and see if it matches the standards of the clay mask.

First impressions of this cleaning mousse? The packaging is nice and the dispenser pumped foam easily. I used it with my ToiletTree facial cleanser. When it got on my face...I wasn't so keen. It had the worst smell ever. It smelt like lemons - but lemons gone bad or citrus. It says on the bottle there is willowbark - maybe this is how willowbark and citrus smells like? Anyway, it wasn't too pleasant.

After using it, it left my face quite smooth. However, I can still smell a light trace of the scent still on my face despite having splashed cold water on afterwards. It claims to mattify the face - after using this product, it didn't make my skin feel too tight or dry but I think you know how I will conclude this review...that's right. I'm not going to use this product again because of the scent inside the bottle. I'll be sticking with my Vichy Normaderm facial cleanser instead, which has the best scent ever!

River Island Biker Jeans

Friday, 28 June 2013

I am really picky when it comes to jeans. The style has to look good, the fit has to be comfortable and the price has to be reasonable! Luckily for me, a trip to River Island meant I walked out with not one, but purchasing two pairs of jeans at a bargain price of £20 each!

I tried on size 6 in a mid rise superskinny 'Madison' style. The fit was perfect. I love the style too, the zips are not too bulky and it's always good to have extra pockets on jeans. The material of these biker trousers are a stretch cotton and a great alternative to denim. It's not as restricting as I find some denim and shapes you more.

I couldn't decide on which colour to buy so I bought both. This style also comes in dark red, black, dark pink, beige white and green. So many colour choices. I think I picked the best two colours though. ;) The navy will match with most colours and the khaki pair is an interesting not so common shade. I can't wait to wear these more!

ToiletTree Professional Skin Care System

Sunday, 9 June 2013

At the start of April, I bought ToiletTree's Professional Skin Care System kit from Amazon. It is available in three colours, blue, pink and grey. I decided to go for the light blue one as that is one of my favourite colours! The price is £29.95 which really isn't bad for an electronic face cleanser with 4 rotating heads and AA batteries included! I'm sure you must have heard of Clarisonic's Plus Skin Cleansing System which is priced at £175, 5 times the price of ToiletTree's!

Inside the box, you get a large body brush, two facial brushes, one with soft bristles for sensitive skin and the other medium bristles for normal skin type. The pumice sphere is for removing dead skin cells on your feet. It is really easy to set up, simply insert the batteries into the electronic cleanser and lock it shut with a coin.

I use the medium bristle facial brush with Vichy's Daily Exfoliating Cleansing Gel and Vichy's Purifying Cleansing Gel. They are both very pleasant smelling. Even if you press the brushes hard against your skin, the rotating head keeps on spinning which is impressive.

I have not changed the batteries since putting them in and it is still working. I use this at least once or twice a week, in addition to my clay mask routine (once a week). I have seen an improvement in my skin, it feels much smoother and cleaner after using this - it creates so much foam too which is much better than using a manual hand held bristle brush. A tip is to moisturise after you use this so your skin doesn't feel dry.

I would really recommend this if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Clarisonic's Plus Skin Cleansing System. It would make a great gift for yourself or friends/family!

SEVENTEEN - Doll'd Up Mascara Review

Monday, 25 March 2013

I received a book of coupons from Boots the other day and inside it had a SEVENTEEN (17, rebranded!) doll'd up mascara coupon for £2 only from the original £6.29 price. This mascara packaging is well designed and looks quite fancy.

"up to 24 hour curl" - the maximum I wear mascara is probably a couple of hours!

My first impressions is that it lengthens and separates my lashes well. First, I curled my lashes with my trusty Shu Uemura eyelash curler, then layered one coat on. It reminds me a bit of Benefit's Bad Gal mascara, apart from it didn't give as much volume, because that also lengthened my lashes with no clumps.

Another pro about this mascara is that it doesn't smell funny like some drugstore mascaras do. The bristles reminded me of Benefit's They're Real mascara. When I put it on, the wand did feel rather uncomfortable; it was quite spiky. Also, from the picture above, you can see it's a curved shape but I didn't feel like it gave my lashes enough curl upwards.

It was interesting to try and for £2 only, you can't really complain. I wouldn't have purchased this if it wasn't for the coupon to be honest as I have other mascaras which are good enough already. What's your favourite mascara?

Maybelline - FIT ME™ Concealer Review

Saturday, 23 March 2013

I decided to try out Maybelline's Fit Me concealer as my Estée Lauder concealer ran out and the new repackaged Estée Lauder concealer seemed to not match my skin colour anymore. So I walked into Boots and purchased shades 10 and 20 from the Maybelline stand. There are 6 shades but they only had these two available. There was also a 3 for 2 offer going on so I bought the Maybelline compact powder in shade 220 too.

The £5.99 price is good for a drugstore concealer. I like the packaging, it's simple, thin and it has an applicator wand brush. Shade 10 is lighter and more yellow toned compared to shade 20. The good thing about this concealer is that you can easily blend it in. I tend to use shade 10 on areas which need brightening and shade 20 to cover blemishes.

It's quite runny compared to my Estée Lauder concealer but I personally think it's better because it looks less cakey. However, I tried wearing this under my eyes and it creases so I wouldn't recommend this concealer for under eyes (I use YSL Touche Eclat for that instead). I still think it is better than Maybelline's SuperStay concealer though.

Overall, I'd recommend this concealer for those of you who do not have many blemishes and do not need that much coverage. It's worth checking out if you are in need of a new concealer.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick

Wednesday, 27 February 2013

Bourjois Paris have released a new lipstick product: Bourjois Rouge Edition. The price of this lipstick is currently £5.99 (normal price £7.99) in Boots and Superdrug. As usual, I had a difficult time (I was standing in Superdrug for what felt like an extremely long time) picking a colour - there are 18 shades available in total. The colours ranged from nudes to bright reds so it is highly likely you will find a shade you like!

I love the simple packaging of the Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick. The end of the tube displays the shade number and colour which is useful for those who own many lipsticks! I chose shade 06 Rose Coquette. In the tube, it is a glittery pink shade. When applied, it is a light sheer pink colour. I wore it to London Fashion Weekend, you can see pictures in the post below.

I like how this lipstick is fragrance free and moisturising. Before applying this lipstick, I put on some Vaseline first. Since this colour does not show up that well (it's light when on my lips), I decided to add No7 Precision Lips Pencil in Blush first which gave it more colour. Then I added a coat of Bourjois Rouge Edition Rose Coquette which gave a glossy finish - perfect for spring! Next time, I think I would pick a darker shade of pink.

Overall, I really like this lipstick and would purchase another once I've finished my lipsticks. It's moisturising, lasts long and a good price. This would rank at the top of my list for drugstore lipsticks so far!
