How To Wake Up On Time Every Time

Sunday, 17 June 2012

When you want to sleep, you can't and when you have to wake up, you want to sleep. Who else is the same?

Waking up, for me, is actually really easy. It's getting out of bed which is the trickiest part.

Let's start with waking up and I'll let you know my tips and tricks on how to always wake up on time.

1. Set 3 alarms. Not 1, not 2 but 3 - I use my phone as my alarm clock. The first alarm is there to wake you up on time. The second alarm makes sure you wake up again once you've turned the first alarm off half asleep and go for your 5 minute "snooze". The third alarm is your final call. Hopefully, after two alarms, you will already be out of your dream/half asleep state and be awake.

2. Use a LOUD alarm ringtone and set your phone to vibrate mode. My alarm is the Overture from The Phantom of The Opera. I believe after you've heard it if you are not already familiar with it, you will understand why waking up is really easy for me. Also when your bed is vibrating, you can't really go back to sleep properly.

3. Put your alarm clock on the other side of the room. This forces you to wake up and get out of bed.

Good luck!

Why I prefer online shopping

Thursday, 14 June 2012

If you know me really well, you will know that I love to shop online. In fact, asos is probably the place I shop at the most if I think about it for both offline and online. You must be thinking why?

For starters, shopping is time-consuming. It takes time for me to travel to and from my shopping destination whereas for online shopping, I can sit in my pyjamas at 3:05am, log onto asos and buy a dress (For those wondering whether I really have done this...yes, I have.) This way, I also avoid the crowds in shops and there's no need to wait 2392304 minutes in a long queue. Shops can often be messy too, making it hard to find what you are after but not for online shopping - there is a search bar, meaning I can find what I'm looking for almost instantly. It stops me from endless browsing and helps me buy things I actually need, not want. Another reason why? asos has so many different brands, it's like shopping at a virtual department store and I don't have to walk to get to the next shop. Online shopping has made my life so much easier. Now you know why!

MAC Lipsticks - Speed Dial & Politely Pink

Wednesday, 13 June 2012

My first ever mac lipstick was bought for me by my best friend as a Christmas gift. My wonderful friends also bought me two mac lipsticks for my birthday last month as part of my present (Thank you so much, I love the shades you picked!) They picked Speed Dial which is a cremesheen finish and Politely Pink which is a lustre finish and probably my favourite from the ones I've tried.

Mac lipsticks smell so good - like vanilla! Speed Dial is a fairly bright pink colour with some gold shimmer. It's a wearable every day look colour and you can build upon the colour to increase the tone of pink. Politely Pink is a frosted pale pink colour, perfect for a natural day time look! The lipsticks are pigmented and I always apply some Vaseline to my lips before applying my lipsticks. I think both shades work well with my NC35 skin tone. I also like to add a coat of lipgloss (usually this one) over my mac lipsticks to give a bit more shine.

They retail at £13.50 and compared to other high end cosmetic brands are a good price in my opinion. I used to be more of a gloss girl than a lipstick girl but I think I am gradually moving over to the lipstick phase. Of course, I am still a loyal lipgloss fan as it keeps my lips moisturised throughout the day! Have you got a favourite mac shade? Tell me below!

Kanebo Media - Shiny Essence Lipsticks

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

Japanese cosmetics brand media, a sub-brand of Kanebo cosmetics do these amazing lipsticks called Shiny Essence Lipsticks. The reason why I am so in love with this lipstick is because they are so moisturising and slim in size - perfect for packing into your pocket, pencil case or clutch bag! Since they are so light, it wouldn't hurt to put one inside your make-up bag either.

I received my first media lipstick as a gift, it's the one featured on the left in the last photo - shade RS-03, a glittery pink colour. The one on the right is shade RS-06, a brighter tone of pink. They are fragrance free and last well for a drugstore brand. Compared to other drugstore lipstick brands I've tried from the UK, I still prefer media lipsticks. I purchased mine from Sasa in Hong Kong.

L'Oreal Color Riche Nail Polish

Monday, 11 June 2012

As summer is approaching (or not, since it's been raining non-stop these few days!) it is the perfect time to paint your nails! L'Oreal Paris have a new nail polish line to add to their collection called 'L'Oreal Color Riche'. There are a total of 41 gel based nail colours which they claim are long lasting.

These were on 3-for-2 offer at Boots across all L'Oreal Paris cosmetics so I decided to buy 3 to try them out and if they were good, go back to buy some more! They retail at £4.99 in Boots for a 5ml bottle.

From left to right, I own:
  1. 209 Ingenuous Rose *
  2. 204 Boudoir Rose *
  3. 207 Babydoll
  4. 602 Perle De Jade *
  5. 305 Dating Coral *
  6. 601 French Riviera
My favourite shades from the 6 I own are: Perle De Jade as it's a cool mint colour and Ingenuous Rose as you can wear this shade of pink in any kind of season!

I usually paint two coats of nail polish, then seal it with a clear top coat to make the colour last a while. Here's what they look like when painted (thanks to my sister for being my nail model):

These are fun colours to experiment with and since they contain only 5ml, it means you are likely to finish a bottle! I have never ever finished a bottle of nail polish in my life. Maybe this time I will?

InStyle UK magazine & Free Body Shop Eyeliners

Sunday, 10 June 2012

The July 2012 issue of InStyle magazine features Cameron Diaz on the front cover! I really like this front cover, the shade of blue is nice to look at. I haven't yet read the actual magazine as it's actually my mum who's an InStyle subscriber but this issue comes with either a Body Shop mascara (worth £10) or 2 Body Shop eyeliners. I was lucky enough to get sent an issue which comes with 2 free Body Shop eyeliners worth £8 each! InStyle magazine is £3.80.

The eyeliners that come free with the magazine are 01 Black and 06 French Navy. These eyeliners are my favourite eyeliners, glides on easily and stays on for a long time without smudging! The magazine also gives readers 25% off The Body Shop Make-Up collection!

Givenchy Les Mini Prismes Travel Exclusive

Saturday, 9 June 2012

I have to admit that one of the best parts of a holiday abroad is actually the bit before the flight...World Duty Free make-up browsing and shopping. Cosmetic brands always have travel exclusive make-up kits and sets which you can only buy in World Duty Free (not counting online).

Givenchy have a travel-exclusive mini sized tower palette in the shape of a jewellery box. The top compartment is magnetic and you pull to open the rest of the drawers. Each compartment consists of 4 mini raised square shaped products with the exception of the last which contains the brushes.

There are a total of 4 levels, the first has eyeshadow, the second face powder, the third blush and the fourth applicators, one for blush/powder and the other for eyeshadow. It also includes a small mirror, useful for applying your make-up on the go!

I have never used Givenchy cosmetics before so it was great to try out something new. The price for this kit at the time of purchase was £36.50. I really like the eyeshadow colours, I found that they were pigmented and one sweep was enough colour. I like to wear them over Urban Decay's primer potion which helps to keep the eyeshadow on for longer and prevent creasing. The face powder blends nicely, it is light and I dust it lightly across my T-Zone whilst all the colours are mixed. The blush colours look natural - they are matte and not shimmery. I haven't used the blush yet or the applicators that come with it though.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to you. Have you visited the airport recently and did you buy this kit? What do you think of it?

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

Friday, 8 June 2012

Revlon have a new lip product on the market known as the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters! There are 14 different shades ranging from nude beige colours to bright fuschia pinks. I bought mine a few weeks ago from Boots, it was on offer for £5.99 instead of the usual £7.99. So many YouTube beauty gurus have been raving and reviewing this lip product so when I finally saw it was available for purchase in Boots and add the fact that it was on offer, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it out!

There were a few shades to choose from, definitely not all 14 were available. However, it was still tricky to choose a colour regardless! In the end, I decided on shade 045 'Cotton Candy' which is a shimmery light pink colour. The packaging is cute, it has a quilted pattern on the tube and a see through birds eye view window allowing you to see the product colour.

Having tested it on the back of my hand in Boots, the colour seemed rather light and pale. When I put the product on my lips, the colour was as expected - rather light and pale. At first, I applied a thin coat of Vaseline to my lips (as that's what I always do before applying lipstick/gloss) and then glided the lip butter over my lips. The product didn't seem to show at all. Turns out that the lip butter is already smooth enough not to apply Vaseline as a base coat. So I tried again, this time applying just the lip butter.

My initial thought was that it felt like applying Vaseline. You can see the light pink colour but as the shade I chose was quite light, it wouldn't have shown up that much anyway! Staying power was decent, like any lip product I've tried, you still have to reapply every now and then. Overall, I liked it. It acts like a lipstick, gloss and balm in one! Not bad for the price at all. Do you own a lip butter too? Tell me your thoughts below!

Victoria's Secret - The Bombshell Look Make-Up Kit

Thursday, 7 June 2012

5:30am. £20. Flight at 6am. This was an impulse buy from World Duty Free! The Bombshell Look makeup kit comes with 6 products and a free fragrance - the new Bombshell Summer Edition fragrance from Victoria's Secret. Packaging is well presented with the front of the box showing the different products included within the package and the back of the box showing you how to achieve the look.

Included within the kit are the following items:
  1. Primer
  2. Mascara
  3. Eyeliner
  4. Lipgloss
  5. Eyeshadow palette with mirror and eyeshadow applicator brush (3 eye shadow colours)
  6. Mineral blush
  7. Victoria's Secret Bombshell Fragrance
What I really like about this kit is how mini sized the items are, meaning I could easily fit these into my suitcase. Also, for 7 products, I'd say it's reasonably priced at £20. It's a great starter kit for beginners and includes essential make-up items.

I've never tried Victoria's Secret make-up before since we don't have a VS store in the UK yet so I was super excited to try out some of their make-up. I found that the mascara wand is a bit like Benefit's BADgal lash, quite thick in size with lots of bristles. It doesn't clump much and separates the lashes nicely. The black pencil eyeliner glides on easily. The lipgloss is a pretty shimmery pink colour, I like to layer this over a coat of lipstick to make sure it stays on longer. The eyeshadow palette includes 3 colours, a shimmery white/silver colour for highlighting the area beneath the brows and the inner corner of the eyes, a metallic blue/teal colour for the lid of the eyes and a very glittery darker shade of blue/black which you can use to create a 'V' shape near the outer corner of the eye for definition. The Bombshell perfume smells good! Not too strong but not too light either, it has a sweet sort of smell that can be worn in the day or night time. I haven't tried the mineral blush or primer yet but the mineral blush is a rosy pink colour with creamy texture. The primer has SPF 20 to help protect the skin from the sun and create a smooth, flawless finish.

Now we can all look like Victoria's Secret angels. What's not to love about that?

Glamour Magazine & Benefit Cosmetics

Wednesday, 6 June 2012

Good news - Benefit have teamed up with Glamour magazine (July 2012) again! It comes with 1 of 3 freebies:
  1. BADgal lash mascara
  2. that girl face brightening primer
  3. the POREfessional pro balm primer
My favourite mascara for a natural every day look has got to be benefit's BADgal lash. The mascara wand is thick and does not clump which is common with other mascaras I have tried. It's my current mascara and I have the full sized product in my make-up bag but who can resist a free mini sized tube?! The small one is now in my make-up bag which was previously lacking a mascara.

I don't use primers normally so can't really comment on the other two products free with the July 2012 issue of Glamour magazine. Are you a fan of Benefit cosmetics? Let me know what your favourite Benefit products are below!
